About MyAutoPlace
Understand your next car decision
MyAutoPlace brings together free educational guides and practical tools for U.S. car buyers and owners. You can compare keeping a car with replacing it, understand an itemized dealer quote, or decode reported vehicle specifications. No account is required.
Start with the car-buying and ownership guides, or try the repair-or-replace calculator, Deal Checker, and VIN Decoder.
Who maintains MyAutoPlace?
The site’s owner maintains MyAutoPlace’s guides and tools. Articles are published under the MyAutoPlace name; we do not claim an independent expert reviewer or professional legal, financial, or mechanical credentials.
AI assistance is used in preparing content and code. Source references, stated assumptions, and calculation checks are provided so you can examine the reasoning rather than rely on an implied credential. AI assistance and automated tests do not replace professional judgment or verification of your own transaction.
Our editorial approach
Guides link to relevant official sources, including the FTC, CFPB, NHTSA, and government vehicle agencies. Source links let you check the underlying guidance and read its limitations. State-dependent requirements are distinguished from general suggestions.
Worked examples are fictional illustrations, not market averages or promises of savings. Published loan and ownership examples are checked against the site’s calculation functions and regression tests. A passing test checks the modeled behavior; it does not establish that every legal rule or real-world assumption is correct.
Each guide shows an editorial review date. That date records the guide’s review, not a guarantee that every linked source or law has remained unchanged. We do not advance review dates just to make an article appear new.
What the tools can—and cannot—do
The ownership calculator uses your estimates of costs and future values. Automatic planning tax, title, and registration estimates depend on supported rules and assumptions; some transactions require manual amounts. It cannot inspect a vehicle or predict future repairs.
Deal Checker checks entered purchase arithmetic and standard financing assumptions. It does not establish fair market value, legal fee compliance, or lender approval. APR-only payment estimates are approximate.
VIN Decoder uses manufacturer-reported data available through NHTSA vPIC. Missing fields and partial results remain explicit. A specifications decode is not a title, lien, accident-history, recall, condition, or valuation report.
How we keep the site useful
Updates focus on clearer explanations, corrected errors, working links, and examples you can reproduce in the tools. A substantive article update receives a new review date; a navigation or styling change does not make the underlying research newly reviewed.
When reporting a problem, include the page address, the unclear statement or result, and what you expected. For a calculator example, use made-up amounts that reproduce the issue. We can review an explanation or calculation; we cannot obtain your lender’s payoff, inspect your vehicle, or confirm a dealer’s legal compliance.
Corrections and feedback
Found an unclear explanation, outdated source, or calculation problem? Contact MyAutoPlace with the page address and a non-sensitive description. Please do not send financial account numbers or identity documents. Important amounts and specifications should be confirmed with the appropriate dealer, lender, agency, or manufacturer before you act.
These resources are educational information and planning estimates, not personalized legal or financial advice. Our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy explain additional limitations and data handling.
