MyAutoPlace

VIN Decoder

Look up the vehicle specifications reported to NHTSA by manufacturers.

VIN decoding does not provide accident history, ownership history, condition, or market value. Your VIN is sent to NHTSA to decode it; MyAutoPlace does not save submitted VINs.

Enter a full 17-character VIN. Older vehicles with shorter VINs are not supported. Find it on the dashboard, driver's door label, or vehicle documents.

Common questions

Can I decode an older, shorter VIN?

This tool supports full 17-character VINs. Older vehicles with shorter identification numbers are not supported.

Why are some specifications missing?

NHTSA vPIC data depends on manufacturer reporting. A partial result or missing transmission, trim, or engine detail does not establish that the vehicle lacks that feature. Confirm important specifications with the manufacturer.

Does decoding show vehicle history or value?

No. Decoding identifies reported specifications; it does not provide accident history, ownership, title status, condition, or market value.
